Slow Food and the Wine Bank in Roero

Pollenzo, 4 km from Bra, of which it is a district, is a village of Roman origin, where there nestles a large horseshoe-shaped farmhouse, built by King Carlo Alberto of Savoy in the first half of the 1800s, next to the cathedral and the castle.

The complex has been home for years to Slow Food, the popular association that has contributed to the safeguarding and revival of several typical Italian food productions; the University of Gastronomic Sciences, the only one in Italy, and, for some time now, also the Wine Bank, a special institution that serves as a place for preserving the historical memory of the best Italian wine productions.

Here, in the spacious royal cellars, bottles sent by about 300 producers, selected from all over the national territory based on quality and rigor in the grape processing methods, rest for years, constantly studied and monitored by the experts of the Bank, who ensure their proper aging and refinement.

One of the most interesting things about this Bank is that it is not a closed institution, only for insiders, but a reality open to the world, to all those who want to broaden their horizons in wine matters.

With a simple reservation, you can participate in the “walks with a glass in hand”, guided tastings, in different languages, among regional wine productions. In the Tasting Workshops, seminars and laboratories, where wine is paired with local cured meats and cheeses. And dinners with fun “blind” tastings, with a blindfold, to recognize wines by smell and taste. Information: La Banca del Vino, piazza Vittorio Emanuele 13, Pollenzo di Bra, tel. 0172.458418
