Galleu Mill Museum, Ozieri

Since 1922, the Galleu Company has been engaged in grain milling, setting up a gas-powder (coal) driven palmenti mill. In 1984, the new Mill was built to meet broader market demands, both in terms of quality and quantity. Thanks to perseverance, research, and care in collecting machines, tools, and every other device related to the miller’s profession, those equipments, instruments, and tools have been preserved, allowing today the creation of a museum rich in history and traditions. For several years, there has been a close collaboration with the Civic Museum of Ozieri, on occasions of ethnographic exhibitions, especially those concerning the art of Milling and Breadmaking. The restoration and activation of an ancient palmenti mill is the strong point of the Museum. The purpose of this work is to make known, particularly to school groups and tourists, the ancient milling methods by directly witnessing the transformation of wheat into flour.
