The archaeological museum of Isola della Scala is housed in the seventeenth-century Chapel of Sant’Antonio inside the former church of Santa Maria Maddalena known as the “Church of the Friars”. It displays archaeological finds recovered from excavations and surface surveys along the banks of the Tartaro and Tione rivers and in the territory of the lower Veronese plain.
The showcases of the only room form a continuous chronological path, with finds ranging from the Bronze Age to the Lombard period. Notably, various artifacts in terracotta, bone, stone, and metal from the prehistoric era are highlighted. For the Roman era, there is the milestone of Emperor Maxentius, found in the Falceri area, materials from the necropolis excavated in the peat bog of San Carlo di Pellegrina, two tombs with related equipment on display, the gem with a portrait of Livia found in Trevenzuolo, as well as the cylindrical stone urn with the set of glass balsamari, various funerary steles, and numerous numismatic materials.
