The archaeological museum of Isola della Scala is housed in the seventeenth-century Chapel of Sant’Antonio inside the former church of Santa Maria Maddalena, known as the “Church of the Friars.” It exhibits archaeological finds discovered through excavations and surface surveys along the banks of the Tartaro and Tione rivers and in the territory of the lower Veronese plain.
The display cases in the single room form a continuous chronological path, with finds ranging from the Bronze Age to the Lombard period. Noteworthy are various artifacts in terracotta, bone, stone, and metal from the prehistoric era. For the Roman period, there is the milestone of Emperor Maxentius, found in the Falceri area, materials from the necropolis excavated in the peat bog of San Carlo di Pellegrina, which includes two tombs with their respective furnishings, the gem with a portrait of Livia found in Trevenzuolo, and the cylindrical stone urn with a set of glass balsamarium, various funerary inscriptions, and numerous numismatic materials.
