The archaeological museum of Isola della Scala is housed in the seventeenth-century Chapel of Sant’Antonio inside the former church of Santa Maria Maddalena known as the “Church of the Friars”. It exhibits archaeological finds uncovered from excavations and surface surveys along the banks of the Tartaro and Tione rivers and in the territory of the lower Verona plain.
The display cases of the single room form a continuous chronological path, with artifacts ranging from the Bronze Age to the Lombard period. Particularly notable are various terracotta, bone, stone, and metal artifacts from the prehistoric era. For the Roman era, there is the milestone of Emperor Maxentius, found in the Falceri area, the materials from the necropolis excavated in the San Carlo di Pellegrina peat bog, including two tombs with their respective grave goods, the gem with a portrait of Livia found in Trevenzuolo, as well as the cylindrical stone urn with a set of glass balsamaria, various funerary inscriptions, and numerous numismatic materials.
