The Archaeological Museum of Isola della Scala is housed in the 17th-century Chapel of Sant’Antonio within the former church of Santa Maria Maddalena, known as the “Church of the Friars.” It exhibits archaeological finds unearthed from excavations and surface surveys along the banks of the Tartaro and Tione rivers and in the low plains of the Verona area.
The showcases in the single room form a continuous chronological path, with artifacts ranging from the Bronze Age to the Lombard period. Noteworthy are various terracotta, bone, stone, and metal items from prehistoric times. For the Roman period, there is the milestone of Emperor Maxentius, found in the Falceri area; materials from the necropolis excavated in the peat bog of San Carlo di Pellegrina, including two tombs with grave goods on display; the gem with a portrait of Livia found in Trevenzuolo; as well as the cylindrical stone urn containing a set of glass balsamari, several funerary inscriptions, and numerous numismatic materials.
