“The Museum was established by Municipal Council act in 2004, named after the pioneer of the industry “”Domenico Divella”” and is located in the Palazzo San Domenico; this monumental complex, built at the end of the 16th century with the adjoining church of Santa Maria del Rosario (but popularly known as the “church of San Domenico”), hosted from its foundation until 1860 a community of friars of the Dominican order (hence the name). With the birth of the new unified Italian state, the monastic presence was suppressed and the convent complex became property of the Municipality. Today Palazzo San Domenico houses on the first floor a rich Civic Library, equipped with web workstations, a modern and well-equipped conference room, and connected to the IT network of the SBN Hub “Terra di Bari,” as well as the Civic Museum of the Terracotta Whistle “Domenico Divella,” which preserves hundreds of artifacts made by the best Italian artists who every year compete in the famous National Terracotta Whistle Competition “City of Rutigliano” organized by the Municipality simultaneously with the equally famous Terracotta Whistle Fair.”
