The Territory Museum is located on Via Arpi, on the ground floor of the building that was once the Convent of the Augustinian friars; a former hospital built near Porta Piccola to accommodate pilgrims traveling to the Monte S. Angelo sanctuary along the Sacred Langobardorum Way. The complex, which also includes the Church of Sant’Agostino, was constructed in the 12th century, expanded and remodeled in 1599, again in 1714, and heavily damaged by the 1943 bombings; it was restored only in 1954. The Museum was established with the aim of providing the city and provincial population, particularly schools, with a tool to disseminate the socio-economic characteristics and history of Capitanata, from the earliest Neolithic settlements to the events of the last century.
