“Il Museo was established by Municipal Council resolution in 2004, named after the industry pioneer “”Domenico Divella”” and is located in Palazzo San Domenico; this monumental complex, built at the end of the 16th century with the adjoining church of Santa Maria del Rosario (popularly known as the “church of San Domenico”), hosted a community of Dominican friars from its foundation until 1860 (hence the name). With the birth of the new unified Italian state, the monastic presence was suppressed and the convent complex became the property of the Municipality. Today Palazzo San Domenico houses on the first floor a rich Civic Library, equipped with web stations, a modern and well-equipped conference room, and connected via computer network to the SBN Center “Terra di Bari” and the Civic Museum of the Terracotta Whistle “Domenico Divella”, which preserves hundreds of artifacts created by the best Italian artists who each year compete in the famous National Terracotta Whistle Competition “City of Rutigliano” organized by the Municipality alongside the equally famous Terracotta Whistle Fair.”
