A tour among the hundreds of wineries nestled between hills and slopes can be useful not only to discover a wealth of wine culture but also to taste their products. Among these is Josko Gravner’s winery, whose whites, fresh and lively, rest underground in very original skins imported from Armenia. Another famous producer is Marco Felluga, whose extensive collection of wines comes from grapes grown in the estates of Gradisca and Russiz Superiore. The quintessential Friulian sweet is the gubana, which, in the Gorizia version, takes the form of a puff pastry roll with a generous filling scented with spices and citrus: irresistible are those from Pasticceria Centrale in San Pietro al Natisone and those of Giuditta Teresa, in the locality of Ponte San Quirino. Also in terms of cured meats, Gorizia does not disappoint, offering among others the hams from Lorenzo d’Osvaldo in Cormons, made from Duroc breed pork, lightly smoked with aromatic herbs and cherry wood. Cheese lovers finally find a quality address in Borgnano at the Caseificio di Giuseppe Zoff, renowned for producing very fresh yogurts and aromatic ricottas.
Shopping in Gorizia, Fine Wines and Delicacies
It is a land of endless delights, the province of Gorizia, and it is really difficult to visit without giving in to the temptation to stock up the pantry at home. Starting with the wines of Collio, a region renowned for producing white and red nectars that have won over sommeliers and gourmets worldwide.
