To the eyes of the miners who discovered it back in 1952, the Santa Barbara Cave must have appeared as a vision.
You can only access the cave through the San Giovanni mine, and perhaps for this reason, it has remained intact. This cave, located in Iglesias, has no external openings and is reached via a mining gallery by riding an electric train.
The cave consists of a large hall over 25 meters high, dotted with tall stalactite columns and magnificent stalagmites. A distinctive feature of the cave is the honeycomb-like limestone formations arranged along the walls and ceilings. In the lower part, a small silent lake reflects the water’s glimmers onto the surrounding walls.
