To the eyes of the miners who discovered it back in 1952, the Santa Barbara cave must have appeared like a vision.
The cave can in fact only be accessed from the San Giovanni mine and perhaps for this reason it has remained intact. This cave, located in Iglesias, has no external exits and is accessed through a mining gallery aboard an electric train.
The cave consists of a large hall over 25 meters high, studded with tall columns of stalactites and splendid stalagmites. A distinctive feature of the cave is the honeycomb limestone formations arranged along the walls and vaults. In the lower part, a small silent lake makes the surrounding walls gleam with water reflections.
