To the eyes of the miners who discovered it back in 1952, the Santa Barbara cave must have appeared like a vision.
The cave can only be accessed through the San Giovanni mine, and perhaps for this reason it has remained intact. This cave, located in Iglesias, has no external openings and is reached via a mining gallery aboard an electric train.
The cave consists of a large hall over 25 meters high, dotted with tall stalactite columns and beautiful stalagmites. A distinctive feature of the cave is the honeycomb-like limestone formations arranged along the walls and ceilings. At the lower part, a small silent lake reflects the surrounding walls with water glimmers.
