The mobility of the equipment at the Ravenna Planetarium allows the sky to be shown at any latitude. The apparent movements of the celestial vault and the succession of day and night are also represented at an accelerated speed. A floor model illustrates the solar system with the zodiac belt.
The simulation of the meteor shower, the view of the planet Jupiter with its four Galilean satellites, and the depiction of a rotating galaxy are particularly impressive. The dome projects the most important reference elements of astronomical geography and graduated scales for calculating astronomical coordinates. On the southeast wall of the planetarium, a large sundial was created by the gnomonist Mario Arnaldi. The planetarium’s terrace is periodically used for public observations.
