Taverns of Bologna

Not only Learned, Red, and Fat, but also Bacchic. Those who know it well define Bologna this way. A city always devoted to the cult of wine and places where it is a binding element, a stimulus for communication, fun, and revelry.

Among the many venues in Bologna, it is precisely the old taverns (made famous also by the songs of Guccini, Dalla, Carboni, and other singer-songwriters) that embody the most typical and rustic aspect of this tradition, despite many having closed their doors under the blows of modernity or having made compromises with kitchens and regular dining.

Compromises aside, however, going to taverns in Bologna remains a delightful experience and, among many, we have chosen for you the “institutional” ones, places that Bolognese people have known for generations and continue to visit for the atmosphere, the wine, and quality food, combined with the pleasure of companionship and memories.

Starting from via Altabella, just steps from Piazza Maggiore and the homonymous tower, we immediately find La Bottega del Vino Olindo Faccioli, the temple of fine Emilia-Romagna nectars. It is managed by Carlo Faccioli, an outgoing and cordial owner, who, with the help of his mother Marina, has turned it into a high-level wine shop and wine bar. Carlo is a professional sommelier and, as family tradition demands, personally selects the wines and manages bottling, complete with his own label. The story of this Bottega is also fascinating.
