Favored by Cosimo I, it was subject to special care and its garden, designed in 1538, one year after the young duke’s rise to power, was conceived to celebrate the prince’s power through the symbolism of its statues, fountains, and grottos.
Currently, the villa is not open to the public, but the splendid garden, rich with citrus trees and rare plants and decorated with ancient and Renaissance sculptures, is visitable. The Animal Grotto, once animated by water features, is of extraordinary charm.
