This heritage is made up of arts and crafts, ways of living, dressing, eating and working, of small objects, postcards, prints, ox carts, and all the small or large things that have shaped the lives of our people for a thousand years.
Thanks also to the help of some experts in the history of our Community, who have worked on the study, preservation, and publication of documents and testimonies of our cultural heritage, it has been possible to realize our primary interest in this adventure: safeguarding the history of Montalcino which we Colombini, as producers of Montalcino wines and members of this community, have always considered vital.
The other component of the museum is the history of Brunello, with its two and a half centuries of documents and the more than two hundred wineries that make up its current reality; we believe that documenting how this major enological and economic phenomenon was born, how it evolved, and how it is today is interesting not only for industry insiders but also for a broader audience.
The uniqueness of the Brunello phenomenon is given by the sum of some factors that many other wines can have, such as product quality, modern technology, and producers’ skills, plus others that only a handful of other regions in the world possess, such as prestige, history, legend.
The success achieved is not just due to undisputed skill and capacity for innovation; that “nothing” from which we started is a soil made exceptionally fertile by everything that came before. For this reason, we believe it is useful to give maximum emphasis to the history of the territory, its myths, the characters, and the wineries that built this past, because it is from them that the myth of Montalcino is made.
