Favored by Cosimo I, it was the subject of special care and its garden, designed in 1538, a year after the young duke’s rise to power, was conceived to celebrate the power of the prince through the symbolism of its statues, fountains, and grottos.
Currently, the villa is not open to the public, but the splendid garden, rich in citrus trees and rare plants and decorated with ancient and Renaissance sculptures, can be visited. The Grotto of the Animals, once animated by water games, is extraordinarily charming.
