The farmhouse, also known as the “Abbey of San Lorenzo,” dates back to the 12th century and originated from the rock settlement of Lama di San Lorenzo. On the left side of the building stands an evocative battlemented tower. In the 13th century, it became the property of the Monastery of Santo Stefano di Monopoli, while in the 14th century it became a cardinal’s income property. Until 1665, it was a grange of the abbey of the Greek monks of San Nicola in Casole of Otranto. In 1693, the property passed to Cardinal Imperiale, who built the church and introduced the cult of Saint Lawrence the Martyr. Since 1798, the farmhouse has been owned by the Colucci-Amati family. The dwelling, built with Murge tuff, is located on the right side of the structure and is the oldest part of the farmhouse (dating back to the 1500s). Opposite the steward’s house is the building of an ancient 18th-century oil mill, restored and housing the Olive Oil Museum, with various olive processing tools, while behind the palace there is an ancient citrus orchard.
