La masseria, also known as “Abbey of San Lorenzo,” dates back to the 12th century and originates from the rock settlement of Lama di San Lorenzo. To the left of the building stands an evocative battlemented tower. In the 13th century, it became the property of the monastery of Santo Stefano di Monopoli, while in the 14th century it was transferred to cardinal revenue. Until 1665 it was a grange of the abbey of the Greek monks of San Nicola in Casole di Otranto. In 1693, the property passed to Cardinal Imperiale, who built the church there, introducing the cult of Saint Lorenzo Martyr. Since 1798, the Masseria has been owned by the Colucci-Amati family. The residence, built with tuff from the Murge, is located to the right of the structure and is the oldest part of the masseria (dating back to the 16th century). Opposite the steward’s house is the building of an ancient 18th-century olive mill restored and home to the Olive Oil Museum, with various olive oil processing tools, while behind the palace there is an ancient citrus orchard.
