A hidden passageway leads from the Music Room to the former Casino Sagredo, now transformed into two refined guest suites. The Tiepolo Room invites visitors to admire the Venetian master’s painting, while the splendor of the palace hosts the theatrical series “Shakespeare in Veneto.”

Overlooking the Grand Canal, between Ca’ D’Oro and the Rialto Bridge, this 15th-century palazzo is a designated national monument. After five centuries, it preserves the grandeur of a noble Venetian residence—reflected in its 42 rooms. The Alcova Restaurant’s terrace, directly on the Grand Canal, offers one of the city’s most authentic vistas.

The Sagredo Casino

From the Music Room, a discreet door reveals a secret passage to the Sala delle Arti: a sequence of rooms adorned with stuccoes and bas-reliefs depicting birds, exotic animals, symbols of the arts, and trophies. Once the family casino, these unique spaces now serve as luxurious suites complete with a salon. The original decor of the alcove room is today preserved at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

A bit of trivia: the Sagredo surname comes from the word “segreto” (secret), stemming from family legend as confidential advisors to the emperor, and with distant Roman origins. Once rulers of Dalmatia, the Sagredo family arrived in Venice in the 9th century and joined the Great Council in 1100 after bringing Sebenico under the Serenissima’s rule.

The Tiepolo Room

Hotel guests and visitors alike can explore this room, home to a canvas by Giambattista Tiepolo dating to around 1740. The painting, where two cherubs still hover in flight, is thought to have paid homage to Venice.

“Shakespeare in Veneto”

Ca’ Sagredo Hotel is a key venue for the traveling theater festival “Shakespeare in Veneto.” Four centuries after the poet’s death, you can relive his words in their original English. “Othello” will be staged on October 26, November 16 and 30, and December 7, starting at 7:00 PM. Tickets: 45 euros. A welcome cocktail is served on arrival. After the show, you can join a Shakespeare-themed dinner for 65 euros per person (excluding drinks).

With the Chef at the Market

Chef Damiano Bassano of Ca’ Sagredo invites travelers to explore the colors and flavors of the city at the historic Rialto market. He shares tips on shopping like a true Venetian, selecting the best seasonal produce. Mornings among the stalls provide a hands-on, fun introduction to local ingredients, followed by a cooking class. Participants learn how to fillet fish, clean shellfish (including specialties like “moeche,” mantis shrimp, and lobster), and master local techniques. The session ends with sitting down together to enjoy the freshly prepared dishes.
