Welcome to the Langhe and Roero, the gourmet heart of Piedmont, largely within the province of Cuneo, in the stretch that goes from Alba southwards towards the Ligurian Mountains.
An itinerary up and down these fantastic hills, immortalized by Cesare Pavese and Beppe Fenoglio, takes you to Alba, the small capital of the precious white truffle that, every year from early October to early November, becomes the star of the International White Truffle Fair of Alba, with exhibitions, tastings, and shows.
La Morra, with its charming medieval center perched on the top of the hill and, in the background, the snow-capped Alps; Verduno, home to a castle with century-old cellars, where you can have lunch and stay overnight right above the ancient barrels. Barolo, with the imposing Falletti manor, recently restored, and its pharaonic Wine Museum.
Barbaresco, homeland of the eponymous ruby-colored nectar; Pollenzo, an ancient Roman village, where memories of food and wines are cultivated; Cherasco, the link between the Langhe and Roero, full of medieval and baroque palaces and monuments. And Grinzane Cavour, with the beautiful castle of Count Camillo Benso, an unforgettable Piedmontese statesman.
