Where to Sleep in Sardinia

Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, while boasting impressive monuments and historical-architectural remains, does not have a great reputation as a tourist city. Its very busy airport and seaport are crossroads for tourism that mostly spreads along the magnificent southeastern and southwestern coasts of Sardinia.

Among these, Villasimius or Chia, just to mention two of the most popular locations, or on islets like Sant’Antioco and San Pietro. However, this doesn’t mean that Cagliari lacks accommodations of various types and targets: star-rated hotels, guesthouses, room rentals, B&Bs…, all capable of meeting the needs of both business and leisure travelers.

The rest of the island is a paradise for vacationers of all ages, starting with those who prefer the classic tourist village offered by tour operators, characterized by all-inclusive packages with services and entertainment of all kinds. For those who love a secluded and exclusive holiday, there are the dream hotels of the timeless Costa Smeralda, Costa Rei, or Gallura. Meanwhile, those with modest expectations will find a dense network of 3-4 star hotels; rented apartments and residences; and more modest but welcoming room rentals and B&Bs.

In some areas of the island, e.g., Sulcis-Iglesiente, the experience of the diffused hotel is both interesting and thriving. Thanks to this, small abandoned villages come back to life as residences for tourists, or the houses of farmers and miners (we are precisely in a region of historic mines) open up to simple but authentic hospitality, also made of unique flavors and the rediscovery of ancient traditions.
