EU-approved rapid antigen tests, as well as vaccination and recovery certificates for travelers from the European Union and the European Economic Area, are currently accepted. Spain is also open to tourism from non-EU countries for travelers with valid vaccination certificates.

Information based on country of origin

A. Traveling to Spain from a European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) country: which health documents are required to enter? You must consult the LIST OF EUROPEAN UNION / EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA COUNTRIES and the LIST OF THIRD COUNTRIES published and updated every 15 days by the Spanish Ministry of Health to check:

If you are coming from an area in the EU/EEA risk countries list, you must present one of the following three documents (except for children under 6 years old):

a) Vaccination certificate: Issued by the relevant authority in your country at least 14 days after you receive the last dose of the full vaccination schedule. Accepted vaccines are those approved by the European Medicines Agency or those that have completed emergency use listing by the World Health Organization.

The vaccination certificate must include at least the following information:

  1. Full name of the holder
  2. Date of vaccination, indicating the date of the last dose received
  3. Type of vaccine administered
  4. Number of doses administered/full vaccination schedule
  5. Country of issue
  6. Identification of the issuing authority

b) Diagnostic certificate: Negative PCR or similar test (such as NAAT), or a negative antigen test among those on the European Commission’s common list (https://covid-19-diagnostics.jrc.ec.europa.eu/devices  #  form_content), carried out within 48 hours before arrival in Spain.

c) Recovery certificate (proof of recovery from COVID-19): Issued by a competent authority or medical service at least 11 days after the first positive NAAT (PCR, TMA, LAMP, etc.) test. The certificate is valid for up to 180 days from the date the sample was taken. The document must include at least the following information:

  1. Full name of the holder
  2. Date of the first positive diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2
  3. Type of NAAT test performed
  4. Country of issue

Each certificate must be written in Spanish, English, French, or German. If the original cannot be obtained in any of these languages, it must be accompanied by an official Spanish translation.

2. If you come from EU/EEA countries not included in the LIST OF EUROPEAN UNION / EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA COUNTRIES and the LIST OF THIRD COUNTRIES of the Ministry of Health, no diagnostic test, vaccination, or immunity certificate will be required.

B. Traveling to Spain for tourism from a country outside of the European Union or European Economic Area: what are the entry requirements?

Consult the LIST OF EUROPEAN UNION/EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA COUNTRIES and LIST OF THIRD COUNTRIES to verify:

If you are traveling from a country or territory included in the list of low-risk countries, you can enter without needing a test, vaccination, or immunity certificate. As of now, the countries on this list are:

  1. Australia
  2. Israel
  3. Japan
  4. New Zealand
  5. Rwanda
  6. Singapore
  7. South Korea
  8. Thailand
  9. United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  10. China and the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao (subject to reciprocity)

If you are traveling from a country or territory not on the exempt list, from June 7th, entry for tourism will be allowed only for those with a valid vaccination certificate issued by the competent authority in your country, at least 14 days after completing the required vaccine doses. Accepted vaccines include those approved by the European Medicines Agency or authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization. Currently, these vaccines are Pfizer-Biontech, Moderna, Astra-Zeneca, Janssen/Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac, and Sinopharm.

The vaccination certificate must contain at least the following information:

  1. Full name of the holder
  2. Date of vaccination, indicating the date of the last dose received
  3. Type of vaccine administered
  4. Number of doses administered/full vaccination schedule
  5. Country of issue
  6. Identification of the issuing authority

What documents/form do I need to complete?

Regardless of the country of origin, all travelers arriving in Spain by air or sea—including those in transit and children under 6—must fill out a health control form before departure via www.spth.gob.es or the Spain Travel Health app. Completing the form generates a unique QR code that passengers must show to transport companies before boarding and to health authorities upon arrival in Spain.

What health checks are carried out upon arrival?

Health checks will include at least a temperature check using contactless thermometers or thermal cameras, document checks, and a visual assessment of the passenger’s condition.

Passengers with an EU Digital COVID Certificate or those from countries not considered at risk (EU or third countries) receive a FAST CONTROL QR code, granting access to faster health controls, so they do not need to show the certificate during boarding or on arrival.

If COVID-19 is suspected or confirmed in a traveler, established communication protocols with Spanish regional health services will be activated for referral and follow-up.

E. What if I enter Spain as a passenger on an international cruise?

International cruise passengers sailing in Spanish territorial waters do not need to use the Spain Travel Health app; their information is collected via the EU Digital Passenger Locator Form, available at https://www.healthygateways.eu

What if I enter Spain via land borders?

Anyone aged 6 or older arriving in Spain by land from a risk country or area must carry one of the vaccination, diagnostic, or recovery certificates listed in the first section of this document.
