The collection of the technical assembly of the former Army Weapons Factory, now the Light Weapons Maintenance Center, consists of over 1500 weapons produced from the nineteenth century to the present, also but not only by the Terni plant. It is housed in what was the first weapons factory of united Italy, inaugurated in 1880 as part of a policy aimed at emancipation from foreign suppliers for military equipment. Rich in hydraulic power, far from borders and unreachable by enemy gunboats, Terni was also chosen to host Italy’s first steel mill, capable of supplying the Navy with armored plates and cannons. Despite the heavy aerial bombings suffered by the city during World War II, and although the factory today is dedicated only to the repair and maintenance of light weapons, it preserves all its buildings in their original appearance. This allows understanding, also thanks to a model, both the functional organization of the factory and the use of hydraulic power.
