The Earth Science Laboratory has been housed since 1999 in the restored San Matteo complex, home of the State Archive, located just inside the walls of the city of Spoleto. Specifically, the Earth Science Laboratory showcases the collection of the naturalist from Spoleto, Francesco Toni, consisting of over six thousand specimens, as well as manuals, geological maps, and documents, collected for educational purposes between 1867 and 1892. Organized into different thematic sections, it displays rocks and fossils classified by geological eras, ethnographic objects from the Neozoic era, minerals, and marbles.
