The Treasure of the Cathedral is kept inside the crypt and includes a collection of artworks dating from the Norman era to the nineteenth century. In 1781, the tombs of the Norman rulers were searched and the discovered artifacts formed the oldest part of the collection. Among these is the crown of Frederick II of Swabia’s first wife, Empress Constance of Aragon. There is also a mid-fifteenth-century illuminated breviary, a chalice from the same century bearing the mark of the Guild of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths of Palermo, and a Cross reliquary dating to the sixteenth century. From the eighteenth century, there is the reliquary of Saint Rosalia, shaped like a statue, and the monstrance by Salvatore Mercurio. Richly decorated sacred vestments and silver liturgical furnishings are also present.
