Oria Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Apulia.
Located on the highest hilltop of Oria, the Castle stands at a strategic point between the provinces of Brindisi and Taranto, easily reachable from state road 7, the ancient Via Appia, just thirty kilometers from the Greater Salento Airport.
Built in the 13th century by order of Emperor Frederick II, who according to chronicles celebrated his wedding here with Yolanda of Brienne, the imposing fortress retains the charm of all the events that have taken place over the last eight centuries of its history.
The Romanin – Caliandro family – the driving force behind the rebirth of this monumental asset – purchased the Castle in 2007: static consolidation works and a conservative restoration, carried out entirely at their own expense and lasting three years, have brought back its beauty and value.
The massive surrounding walls, dominated by three imposing towers, a testimony to its past defensive role, enclose the immense parade ground, which is fully open to visitors and can host up to 5,000 people.
Inside, every detail has been cared for respecting the architecture, and the furnishings enhance the splendor and atmosphere of the historic residence. The harmonious blend of period rooms and modern comforts characterizes the noble halls, ideal venues for conferences, meetings, and all types of receptions.
Oria Castle offers visitors tours of the towers and battlemented walls: a walk that opens the eyes and the spirit.
