The Castle of Oria is one of the most beautiful castles in Puglia.
Located on the top of the highest hill in Oria, the Castle is in a strategic point between the provinces of Brindisi and Taranto, easily reachable from state road 7, the ancient Via Appia, just thirty kilometers from the Grande Salento airport.
Built in the 13th century by the will of Emperor Frederick II, who according to chronicles celebrated his wedding here with Yolanda of Brienne, the imposing manor retains the charm of all the events that have taken place over the last eight centuries of history.
The Romanin – Caliandro family, promoters of the revival of this monumental asset, purchased the Castle in 2007: static consolidation works and a conservative restoration, carried out entirely at their own expense and lasting three years, have brought its beauty and value back to light.
The massive enclosing walls, dominated by three imposing towers, evidence of the past defensive function, enclose the immense parade ground, which is wide open to visitors’ knowledge and can host up to 5000 people.
Inside, every detail has been cared for respecting the architectures and the furnishings enhance the splendor and atmosphere of the historic residence. The harmonious combination between the period rooms and the most modern comforts characterizes the noble rooms, the ideal place for congresses, meetings, and all kinds of receptions.
The Castle of Oria offers the public the visit of the towers and battlemented walls: a walk that opens the eyes and the spirit.
