The Municipal Antiquarium is located in the historic village of Alberona. The village mainly consists of characteristic peasant houses made of stones, white stone, or masonry. The main monument of the village is the Torre del Priore, which originally belonged to the Templars and became in the 14th century the residence of the Grand Prior of the Order of the Knights of Malta of Barletta, when he moved to his fief of Alberona. In 2002 it was donated to Italia Nostra, which made it its headquarters. The Antiquarium, not yet a “museum” but an “authorized deposit,” is housed in the premises of a historic private building and consists of four large rooms. Of these spaces, two have been used for the display of archaeological finds, while the other two are used as storage.
