The Municipal Art Gallery, inaugurated in 1983 after extensive inventory work and restoration, houses several collections donated to the Lecco Civic Museum during the 1930s and 1940s. Notably, it includes the substantial private collection of prints and engravings by Confalonieri, the Carlo Todeschini bequest, rich with over 80 paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, and the Fagioli Cornelio legacy, composed of more than 500 prints, numerous paintings, and a large number of furniture and furnishings. During the 1990s and 2000s, the collections were expanded through new acquisitions and donations, mainly featuring contemporary art by both local artists and internationally renowned figures (Giò Pomodoro, Scanavino, Baruchello, Castellani, Baj, Sangregorio). The collection of prints and engravings includes a significant assembly dedicated to Manzonian iconography and the depiction of “The Betrothed” in the 19th century, alongside groups with religious and historical themes, particularly from the Risorgimento era. Of exceptional value are two series of the “Fasti di Napoleone” by Andrea Appiani. In recent years, the art collections have undergone revision and reorganization through SIRBeC cataloging and targeted restoration and conservation efforts, especially concerning the prints and engravings collection. The displayed works follow a thematic path divided by genre, from sacred art to still life, landscape, portraiture, and contemporary art.
