The mineral exhibition of the “Fulvio Grazioli” Collection is set up in the rooms of the historic Palazzo Martinengo, thanks to the availability of the Municipality of Sondrio, the Grazioli family, and in collaboration with the Valtellina Institute of Mineralogy (IVM). Prof. Grazioli (1913-1991) assembled one of the richest and most complete regional collections existing in Italy, made up of about 12,000 specimens found in Valmalenco and a few other areas of the province of Sondrio. His passion for minerals began in 1925, thanks to his acquaintance with Pietro Sigismund, a pioneer of mineralogical exploration in the province of Sondrio. Grazioli discovered 12 new finding locations, and 31 mineral species, then new for Valmalenco, some of which were of great scientific interest. Subsequently, other important minerals from the province, coming from the Collections of the IVM, the Bombardieri Foundation, and the Provincial Administration of Sondrio, were added to the exhibition.
