La Galleria Comunale d’Arte, inaugurated in 1983 after extensive inventory and restoration work, houses several collections donated to the Civic Museum of Lecco in the 1930s – 1940s, particularly the substantial private collection of prints and engravings Confalonieri, the Carlo Todeschini bequest, rich in over 80 paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, and the Fagioli Cornelio bequest, composed of more than 500 prints, numerous paintings, and a large number of furniture and furnishings. In the 1990s and 2000s, the collections were enhanced by new acquisitions and donations mostly of contemporary art, both from local artists and of international relevance (Giò Pomodoro, Scanavino, Baruchello, Castellani, Baj, Sangregorio). The collection of prints and engravings consists of an important collection dedicated to Manzonian iconography and the representation of the Betrothed in the 19th century, to which are added clusters with religious and historical themes, particularly Risorgimento-related. Of notable value are two series of “The Deeds of Napoleon” by Andrea Appiani. In recent years, the artistic collections have been reviewed and reorganized through SIRBeC cataloging, and targeted restoration and conservation interventions, particularly on the collection of prints and engravings. The exhibited works follow a thematic path, divided by genres, from sacred art, to still life, to landscape, to portrait, to contemporary art.
