The Mazzucchelli Museums, opened to the public in 1995, are housed in the western wing of Villa Mazzucchelli and consist of three entities: the Giammaria Mazzucchelli House Museum, the Fashion and Costume Museum, and the Wine and Corkscrew Museum. The Mazzucchelli Museums were formally recognized as “museums” by the Regional Council of Lombardy Resolution on November 5, 2004, no. 7/19262. Since November 2007, they have been enriched with a valuable collection of paintings and works dating from the 13th to the 20th century, which make up the Giuseppe Alessandra Art Gallery. The House Museum, dedicated to the well-known 18th-century scholar, can be visited through a path along which you can admire period furnishings and objects in their original placement and frescoes by Francesco Savani that lead through pictorial narratives into the world of 18th-century culture.
The collection of the Fashion and Costume Museum, originating from the research and travels of Franca Meo, consists of about 6,000 pieces, including dresses, accessories, hats, handkerchiefs, parasols, fans, gloves, jewelry, underwear and household linen, sacred vestments, work tools, children’s clothing, and toys, chronologically dating from the mid-18th century to the birth of Haute Couture in the 20th century. A core of 19th and 20th-century ethnic clothing enriches the museum’s holdings. The Wine and Corkscrew Museum is housed in the spaces of the villa’s western barn, spanning three floors, including a basement, corresponding to three sectors. The basement room, dedicated to Vine Cultivation and Winemaking, brings together some specific tools of the winemaker: sickles, crushers, presses, and an extraordinary Piedmontese cart for grape transport.
The ground floor section, opening with a precious 17th-century press, hosts tools suitable for Wine Processing and Bottling.
On the first floor, in the section dedicated to vintage Corkscrews and Corkers, we delve into one of the most eclectic and vast worldwide collections of antique and modern corkscrews. The variety is truly surprising, from all origins and shapes, from sophisticated English ones to those of French origin, continuing with Italian and German examples.
