The Mazzucchelli Museums, opened to the public in 1995, are housed in the western wing of villa Mazzucchelli and consist of three entities: the Giammaria Mazzucchelli House Museum, the Fashion and Costume Museum, the Wine and Corkscrew Museum. The Mazzucchelli Museums were formally recognized as “museums” by the Resolution of the Regional Council of Lombardy on November 5, 2004, no. 7/19262. Since November 2007, they have been enriched with a valuable deposit of paintings and works, dating from the 13th to the 20th century, which formed the Giuseppe Alessandra Art Gallery. The House Museum, dedicated to the well-known 18th-century scholar, can be visited through a path along which you can admire period furnishings and objects in their original placement and frescoes by Francesco Savani that guide visitors with pictorial narratives into the world of 18th-century culture.
The collection of the Fashion and Costume Museum, which originates from the research and travels of Franca Meo, consists of about 6,000 pieces, including clothes, accessories, hats, handkerchiefs, parasols, fans, gloves, jewelry, underwear and home linen, sacred vestments, work tools, children’s clothing, and toys, chronologically dated from the mid-18th century to the birth of High Fashion in the 20th century. A core of ethnic clothes from the 19th and 20th centuries enriches the museum’s holdings. The Wine and Corkscrew Museum is housed in the rooms of the western barchessa of the villa, extending over three floors, including a basement, which correspond to three sectors. In the basement, dedicated to Vine Cultivation and Winemaking, some specific tools of the vine grower are gathered: sickles, grape crushers, presses, and an extraordinary Piedmontese cart for transporting grapes.
The ground floor section, which opens with a precious 17th-century press, houses tools suitable for Wine Processing and bottling.
On the first floor, in the section dedicated to vintage Corkscrews and stoppers, we delve into one of the most eclectic and vast world collections of ancient and modern corkscrews. The variety is truly surprising, of every origin and shape, from sophisticated English ones to those of French origin, then continuing with Italian and German ones.
