The Mazzucchelli Museums, open to the public since 1995, are located in the western wing of Villa Mazzucchelli and consist of three entities: the Giammaria Mazzucchelli House Museum, the Fashion and Costume Museum, and the Wine and Corkscrew Museum. The Mazzucchelli Museums were formally recognized as “museums” by the Resolution of the Regional Council of Lombardy on November 5, 2004, no. 7/19262. Since November 2007, they have been enriched by a valuable collection of paintings and works, dating from the 13th to the 20th century, which formed the Giuseppe Alessandra Art Gallery. The House Museum, dedicated to the renowned 18th-century scholar, can be visited through a path along which period furnishings and objects in their original locations, as well as frescoes by Francesco Savani that narrate the cultural world of the 18th century through pictorial storytelling, can be admired.
The collection of the Fashion and Costume Museum, originating from the research and travels of Franca Meo, consists of about 6,000 pieces, including clothes, accessories, hats, handkerchiefs, parasols, fans, gloves, jewelry, lingerie and home linens, sacred vestments, work tools, children’s clothing and toys, chronologically dating from the mid-18th century to the birth of haute couture in the 20th century. A core of ethnic garments from the 19th and 20th centuries enriches the museum’s collection. The Wine and Corkscrew Museum is housed in the western barchessa of the villa, spanning three floors, including a basement, corresponding to three sections. In the basement room, dedicated to Vine Cultivation and Winemaking, some specific vintner’s tools are gathered: sickles, grape crushers, presses, and an extraordinary Piedmontese cart for transporting grapes.
The ground floor section, which opens with a precious 17th-century press, houses tools suitable for Wine Processing and Bottling.
On the first floor, in the section dedicated to vintage Corkscrews and Stoppers, we delve into one of the most eclectic and vast world collections of ancient and modern corkscrews. The variety is truly surprising, from every origin and shape, from sophisticated English ones to those of French origin, continuing with Italian and German ones.
