The “Completion of the Diocesan Museum” project (code BASBF09) is among the 32 interventions of the III Additional Act to the APQ Cultural Heritage.
The creation of the Muro Lucano museum complex was conceived and proposed after the 1980 earthquake to house in a prestigious location, namely the monumental complex “Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace, Seminary,” the precious movable artistic assets from the diocese centers affected by the seismic event and the numerous archaeological finds from the Muro hinterland.
The intervention involved the completion of restoration works carried out on the Bishop’s Palace building through the following remaining finishing works:
– internal finishes of the three exhibition rooms on the ground floor (plasters, screeds, floors, painting, fixtures);
– entrance courtyard paving;
– supply and installation of the hydraulic elevator to overcome architectural barriers;
– completion of the electrical system;
– completion of the heating system.
The project aims to fully recover the Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace, and Seminary complex to create a single cultural activity hub capable of offering a strong tourist attraction.
The Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art with the cathedral’s hypogea and the adjacent National Archaeological Museum will form a unified museum hub able to propose a varied cultural offer.
