The Bressanone Christmas Market in Piazza del Duomo, framed by the majestic cathedral from which the square takes its name, the parish church of San Michele, and the town hall, is one of South Tyrol’s most atmospheric Christmas markets.
An essential stop is the nativity scene exhibition, with a dedicated museum inside the Hofburg, the Bishop’s Palace. But the most spectacular event in town is certainly the LIORA Light Musical, a stunning show of lights and music produced by the creators of the Soliman’s Dream. It takes place in the enchanting courtyard of the Hofburg, Bressanone’s Bishop’s Palace.
Every day there are three performances, between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm (except December 24 and 25), featuring vibrant colors, international music, and live singing. And there’s more: among the stalls of the Bressanone Christmas Market you’ll find wooden figurines, handcrafted nativity scenes, handmade terracotta items, brightly colored glass ornaments, traditional Tyrolean gifts, and festive decorations.

Of course, the Bressanone Christmas Market wouldn’t be complete without its food stalls, offering a taste of the Isarco Valley’s specialties. Don’t miss the Christmas pastries and the fresh breads from Profanter (Profanter’s Backstube).
Between one treat and the next, don’t miss the chance to stroll the city by night—a truly magical way to experience Christmas in Bressanone.
In this ancient town, Christmas is marked not only by decorated trees and seasonal delicacies, but also by artisan nativity scenes—an established tradition in Bressanone. The Christmas market is a perfect occasion to discover extraordinary cribs, displayed throughout the town during the festivities. The most important collection, open for visits during the holiday season, is held at the Hofburg. Here you can admire Christmas and liturgical nativity scenes featuring painted, carved, modeled, and dressed figures. Bressanone’s Hofburg nativity collection is among the most significant in the world.
This year’s highlight is the musical show “Liora. The Value of Time,” scheduled from November 25, 2021 to January 6, 2022, in the evocative courtyard of the Hofburg—a cultural event born from the collaboration of local artists, designed to bring light and music to one of Bressanone’s iconic sites. And that’s not all: among the Christmas market stalls you’ll find a wide variety of local products and many food stands to sample the region’s specialties.
