There’s no better excuse to head to the German capital and experience the magic of its 60 Christmas markets scattered across Berlin.
Festivities kick off toward the end of November, though the official start is December 6th, on ‘Nikolaustag’ (St. Nicholas Day).
There’s truly something for everyone: from local crafts and international treats to entertainment for young people and fun for children.

The Christmas market in the Spandau district boasts an impressive number of stalls—up to 450 on weekends—earning it a reputation as the biggest and most distinctive market in all Germany. Here, you’ll find unique, mostly medieval-inspired items.

Traveling with kids? Don’t miss the Alexanderplatz Christmas market, where little ones can enjoy rides, a beautiful Christmas tree, and a large ice-skating rink.
Though smaller, the Weihnachtzauber Christmas market in Gendarmenmarkt square is a local favorite with its 120 charming stalls.

Wander between booths to pick up jewelry, glassware, ceramics, and traditional crafts from Brandenburg and the Ore Mountains regions—and sample classic German Christmas sweets like Baumkuchen, Stollen, and Kartoffelpuffer, along with marzipan, candied fruit, grilled sausages, and baked potatoes. All to be enjoyed with warming Glühwein, the signature mulled red wine served in keepsake mugs.

Christmas Market at Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin

Another magical market takes place at Charlottenburg Palace, where you’ll find artisan products, fine jewelry, antique furniture and chandeliers, and exclusive gourmet specialties offered from 36 pagodas. Here, expect themed settings like a Tyrolean lodge, a grand farmhouse, and a Russian wooden house. Children can enjoy their own Christmas market, while visitors are entertained by musicians in historic costume and classical concerts—the royal treatment in a noble setting. The market is held in the evenings when the palace opens its doors to guests.

Santa Lucia Christmas Market in Berlin

In Prenzlauer Berg, the Kulturbrauerei’s spacious courtyards become a dazzling Swedish-inspired Christmas village with about 50 stalls and vintage rides. Dedicated to Lucia, the Swedish saint of light, this market warms up the former industrial site with glowing lights. Scandinavian music in native languages completes the festive, Nordic-Romantic atmosphere.
