II Bressanone Christmas Market in Piazza del Duomo, framed by the majestic monument from which it takes its name, the parish church of San Michele and the town hall, is one of the most characteristic Christmas Markets in South Tyrol.
An important stop is the visit to the nativity scenes, which have a museum inside the Hofburg, the bishop’s palace. But the most spectacular event that this village offers is certainly LIORA Light Musical, a show of lights and music curated by the creators of Soliman’s dream, which will take place in the splendid setting of the courtyard of the Hofburg, the bishop’s palace of Bressanone.
Every day there will be three shows, between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm (except December 24 and 25), with vivid colors, international music and live sung songs. And that’s not all: amongst the stalls of the Bressanone Christmas Market you can find wooden figurines, nativity scenes with their figures, handmade terracotta objects, colored glass spheres, Tyrolean gift items and Christmas decorations.

Of course, at the Bressanone Christmas Market the gastronomic stands are not missing, inviting you to taste the specialties of the Isarco Valley. Among these, it’s impossible to give up Christmas sweets and the bread from the Profanter bakery (Profanter’s Backstube).
Between one delicacy and another, a visit to the city by night should not be missed, a memorable moment to fully experience the magic of Christmas.
In the ancient town, Christmas is not just about decorated trees and good food, but also about handcrafted nativity scenes which have a long tradition in Bressanone. The Bressanone Christmas Market is indeed the opportunity to admire some extraordinary nativity scenes that during the holidays are placed in the main corners of the town. The most important collection in the city – visitable during the Christmas period – is however kept at the Hofburg, the Bishop’s Palace; here you can admire Christmas and liturgical nativity scenes with painted, sculpted, modeled and dressed figures. The nativity scene collection at the Hofburg in Bressanone can be counted among the most important in the world.
This year in the city the most awaited event is the musical “Liora. The value of time,” scheduled from November 25, 2021 to January 6, 2022 in the suggestive courtyard of the Hofburg: a cultural event born from the collaboration among artists of the city aiming to enliven one of the symbol palaces of Bressanone with lights and music. And that’s not all: among the stalls of the Christmas Market you can find many typical products and various gastronomic stands to taste the specialties of the territory.
