Belgiorno Civic Museum, Modica

The recent history of this museum revolves around the figure of F. L. Belgiorno (Modica 1906-1971), who around the 1950s arranged various lots of ancient ceramics into a true Museum.

The Museum is divided into sections, within which the archaeological collections are organized according to a chrono-topographic criterion; the museum preserves priceless artifacts that testify to the continuous use of the Ibleo territory since prehistoric times.

Among the most valuable finds is the precious bronze statuette depicting Heracles, discovered in 1967 in the Cafeo district. The small bronze, dated to the end of the 3rd century BC, with its splendid patina, is a fine example of Sicilian production and is considered

one of the most important among those found in Sicily.
