The recent history of this museum revolves around the figure of F. L. Belgiorno (Modica 1906-1971), who around the 1950s ordered various lots of ancient ceramics into a real Museum.
The Museum is divided into sectors, within which the archaeological collections are organized according to a chrono-topographic criterion; the museum preserves priceless artifacts that testify to the continuous use of the Iblean territory since prehistoric times.
Among the most precious artifacts is the valuable bronze statuette depicting Heracles, found in 1967 in the Cafeo district. The little bronze, dated to the end of the 3rd century BC, with its splendid patina, is a fine piece of Sicilian production and is considered
one of the most important among those found in Sicily.
