Diocesan Museum of the Archdiocese of Trani

The Museum of the Archdiocese of Trani was established in 1974 by Archbishop Giuseppe Carata, with the purpose of displaying all stone and sculptural material from the demolished Cathedral and other churches in the Trani area.

The countless number of artifacts, impossible to contain in a single environment and to which some donations have been added over time, such as the archaeological collection of “Lillo-Rapisaldi,” are housed in two locations, in Palazzo Addazi and the adjacent Palazzo Lodispoto.

The rich collection of the Museum of the Archdiocese of Trani is divided into several sections. In the Palazzo Lodispoto there is the Lapidary Section “Benedetto Ronchi” including artifacts that span a time period from the 6th century A.D. to the 18th century A.D. In a small room, one can admire the Capitular Treasure comprising liturgical objects.

On the second floor of the building are exhibited works of the Archbishops of the Diocese, dating from the 14th century A.D. to today. The archaeological section “Lillo-Rapisaldi”, including prehistoric artifacts from the 6th-2nd millennium B.C.

In the Palazzo Addazi there is the Picture Gallery Section which exhibits inside it paintings originating from the Cathedral of Trani.
