The small church with simple and clean shapes externally presents inside a single space, ending at the back with a presbytery where the sarcophagus of Enrico Scrovegni is located, a work by Andriolo de Santi, and on the altar a Madonna with child, a work by the fourteenth-century sculptor Giovanni Pisano. The chapel consists of a single room measuring 20.5 x 8.5 m and 18.5 m in height with a barrel vault roof. The interior was frescoed by Giotto with the stories of Mary’s parents, Joachim and Anna, with the Stories of the Virgin and Jesus, and on the counter-façade with the Last Judgment narrated in the Apocalypse. Furthermore, fourteen monochrome allegories of Vices and Virtues are made on the high perimeter plinth. The entire decoration is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of art of all time.
