From a naturalistic point of view, the Polokwane province in South Africa is also interesting because some of the most characteristic plant species of South Africa grow here: monumental baobabs, thorny acacias and mopane.
1 What to See in Polokwane
A visit to Polokwane, formerly Pietersburg, cannot overlook the city’s two main museums: the Irish House, dedicated to local history and housed in an elegant Victorian mansion, and the Hugh Exton Photographic Museum, which preserves rich photographic collections from the late 19th to early 20th century.
2 Bakone Malapa Museum
About ten kilometers outside the city, southeastwards, is the Bakone Malapa Museum, an open-air museum area where a Bakone indigenous village has been faithfully recreated. About fifteen residents live here permanently, engaged in traditional crafts and showcasing to tourists the customs and social life.
