The museum was established in 1990 within the Cultural Center of Pesa, replacing a previous Antiquarium set up in 1977 at the old premises of the Municipal Library. The exhibition route aims to illustrate, supported by a broad and detailed educational system, the transformation processes that affected the coastal area between Riccione and Misano, including the adjacent foothill sector marked by the Conca stream. Dedicated modules offer a concise overview of the origin and evolution of life on our planet, up to the examination of the geological structure of the territory and the main stages of the development of human communities in the Riccione area. The use of casts, models, and dioramas allows visitors to revisit complex paleo-contexts and paleo-environments such as the Pleistocene continental vertebrate deposit found in the bed of the Conca stream, with fossil remains of plants, mollusks, and animal species (notably large mammals such as Bison priscus, Megaceros, and Proboscideans). Human presence is documented in the Riccione museum by chipped stone tools dating back to the Lower Paleolithic and remains of the first stable settlements with agro-pastoral economies. Materials from the Metal Ages are also present, among which those from the Eneolithic period stand out, linked to smelting activities and metallurgical craftsmanship. The museum reserves its final section to the phase of Roman colonization marked by a dense demographic fabric centered on the establishment of farms and small rural communities. A notable example is the case of S. Lorenzo in Strada, which was bypassed by a specific deviation of the linear route axis from the Flaminia road, whose significance as a communication route has allowed the site’s preservation to the present day.
