The Museum aims to collect and permanently exhibit all existing documentation on the master and famous director Federico Fellini (1920-1993), from original drawings to musical scores, from stage materials to awards, from costumes to photos, from papers to posters and sketches. It is managed by the eponymous Foundation, established in 1995 by Maddalena Fellini and Pupi Avati, with the goal of conserving, enhancing, and promoting the artistic and cinematic work of the versatile director from Rimini through exhibitions, conferences, and ongoing activities on both national and international levels. The foundation’s collection consists of the director’s archive, which houses about four hundred of his drawings and watercolors that showcase his fertile, inexhaustible, and ironic creative vein. The rooms of the House on via Nigra host exhibitions of drawings, photos, stage costumes, and other materials belonging to the Maestro. Among the highlights are the costumes from the film Rome, the so-called “loving bird” (the mechanical device that accompanied the erotic performances of the Venetian adventurer in Casanova), the posters of the most famous films: Fellini-Satyricon, And the Ship Sails On, Intervista, The White Sheik, The Swindle, Amarcord, Casanova, Roma, City of Women, The Voice of the Moon, Variety Lights and I Vitelloni. Scenes photos from The White Sheik, Nights of Cabiria, Amarcord, Boccaccio ’70, and other Fellini sets are also exhibited, as well as preparatory drawings for some of his films. The use of multimedia resources allows visitors to virtually travel through the Fellini universe. In the garden overlooking Cervi park, the silhouette of a ship, onboard which are other colorful sketches by Fellini, seems to allude to the mythical transatlantic liner Rex from Amarcord.
