Reassembled after the events of the Second World War, Spada Gallery in Rome features the private collection of Cardinal Bernardino Spada, including paintings (mainly from the 17th century), ancient sculptures, furnishings, and period furniture. It houses works by Guercino, Baciccia, Orazio Gentileschi, Guido Reni.
In the courtyard, visitors can see the famous Perspective Gallery created by Borromini. Most of the exhibited works come from Bernardino Spada’s collection (1594-1661), later expanded with new acquisitions by his great-nephew Cardinal Fabrizio Spada (1643-1717).
A smaller but noteworthy contribution comes from the collecting passion of Virginio Spada (1596-1662), while following the marriage of Orazio Spada to heiress Maria Veralli in 1636, numerous important ancient and modern works became part of the collection.
