The works were completed by the façade of Carlo Rainaldi (1655-65). The interior, with a Latin cross plan, is rich in masterpieces ranging from the 1400s (Tomb of Pius II) to the 1900s (Chapel of Saint Gaetano Thiene), but the 1600s is the best represented century, so much so that it can be defined as a summa of Baroque style in Rome.
Maderno’s dome is the third tallest in Rome, after St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and the Saints Peter and Paul church at EUR.
