The Historical Museum is located at the Vigna di Valle Hydroscale, the oldest in Italy, situated on the southern shore of Lake Bracciano where, in 1904, by the will of Major Engineer Mario Maurizio Moris, recognized father of Italian aviation, the first Experimental Aeronautical Workshop was established. The Museum, with its 13,000 m2 of covered exhibition space, is one of the largest and most interesting flight museums in the world. Set across four large exhibition pavilions, it houses over 60 aircraft and a substantial collection of engines and various aeronautical memorabilia that chronologically tell the story of military flight in Italy and the men who were its protagonists. The path winds through sectors dedicated to the Pioneers, Airships, World War I (Troster hangar, start of visit), the epic Polar Flights of General Nobile, the Mass Long-distance Flights, the Schneider Trophy, the interwar aircraft (Velo hangar), World War II and the great airplanes (Badoni hangar), ending with the last pavilion illustrating the post-war rebirth of the Italian Air Force, which includes contemporary jet aircraft (Skema hangar).
